Psalm 130

Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD;
Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.

If you, LORD, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Israel, put your hope in the LORD,
for with the LORD is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
He himself will redeem Israel
from all their sins.

Our Eyes Look to the Lord our God

I lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven. As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. Psalm 123:1-2
I have always really liked these verses in Psalm 123. Whenever I am facing a decision in life, or need to really hear a word from the Lord, or just need to sit at His feet and trust Him, I think about these verses.

I also really liked The Message version...
I look to you, heaven-dwelling God, look up to you for help. Like servants, alert to their master's commands, like a maiden attending her lady, We're watching and waiting, holding our breath, awaiting your word of mercy.

Let us go to the House of the Lord

I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” Psalm 122:1
Do you rejoice when it's time to go to church on Sunday mornings?  Or do you grumble and complain a bit?

Come on... be honest.

I'll be honest... even as a Pastor's wife sometimes I'm grumbling on Sunday mornings.  There are Sundays that I would much rather stay in bed, take the day off, do what I want to do.  Key word: I.

And it is on those days that I have found that if you will get up and go to church anyway, you are always glad you did.  In fact, I recently put on my facebook page, "People only go to church when they feel like it, but when they don't feel like it is when they really should go."

On Sundays when I don't feel like going I actually get a little excited... because I know something good is going to happen!  Besides, are we supposed to walk after the flesh (what I want) or are we supposed to deny our flesh and walk after the Spirit? (what God wants)

Getting up and going to church when you don't feel like it is crucifying that ugly flesh that likes to call the shots!

So. How's your attitude about going to church?  Are you going for yourself or are you going to worship God despite how you feel or how anyone else makes you feel?

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Lying Lips

I'm in trouble. I cry to God, desperate for an answer: "Deliver me from the liars, God! They smile so sweetly but lie through their teeth." Do you know what's next, can you see what's coming, all you barefaced liars? Pointed arrows and burning coals will be your reward. Psalm 120:1-4 (MSG)
Today when I read these verses about lying I was suddenly reminded by how much God hates lying.

As an adult I think we relegate lying as a sin for little kids... not for adults.  But God doesn't say He hates it when children lie... God just says He hates lying!
The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful. Proverbs 12:22
Let today be a reminder to you that God detests lying lips... no matter the age!
